Assigning different LUs to common groups in SNA Server
This article was previously published under Q150454
It is not recommended that you assign different LUs to user groups that
have members in common because the results cannot be predicted.
According to the SNA Server version 3.0 "Administration Guide," Chapter 3:
If a user is assigned LUs through one or more accounts, such as group
accounts and the user's individual account, the LUs do not accumulate.
Instead, one account determines the access for that user. The account
that determines this access is the account found first in the following
search order:
- User accounts (highest priority)
- Domain groups
- Local groups
- Well-known groups such as Everyone (lowest priority)
However, it does not explain clearly what will happen if two groups are at
the same level (2 local groups).
SNA Server will use the LUs assigned to whichever group is returned first
from Microsoft Windows NT, and there is no way to predict the order in
which the groups will be returned.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
