FIX: You experience some problems when you perform a grouping members operation on an Excel pivot table whose data source is an SSAS 2005 cube or an SSAS 2008 cube

Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2005 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2005 fix release.

SYMPTOMS

You have a Microsoft Office Excel pivot table on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server 2005. The pivot table data source is a SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services (SSAS 2005) cube. When you perform a grouping members operation on this pivot table, you may experience one or more of the following problems:
  • Display folders that are defined for measures in the cube disappear from the field list of the pivot table.
  • Dimensions that are marked as Visible in the cube disappear from the field list of the pivot table.
  • Some dimensions and attributes that should be visible in the cube are not visible.
  • Dimensions that are marked as Hidden appear in the field list of the pivot table after the grouping operation is complete.
Note These problems also occur in SQL Server 2008 Analysis Services (SSAS 2008).

RESOLUTION

SQL Server 2005

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 hotfixes are created for specific SQL Server service packs. You must apply a SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 hotfix to an installation of SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3. By default, any hotfix that is provided in a SQL Server service pack is included in the next SQL Server service pack.

SQL Server 2008
