The "Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus" command incorrectly shows that the storage group of a SCR on Exchange Server 2007 is disabled
Consider the following scenario:
- You have some servers that are running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
- You perform a Standby Continuous Replication (SCR) operation on these servers.
- You add some entries to the hosts file on a source server or on a target server. These entries are Fully Qualified Domain Names or NETBIOS names.
Example:
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.10.10.21 exm.domain.com
10.10.10.21 exm
In this scenario, if you run the
Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus command in Exchange Management Shell (EMS), the result of the command shows that the storage group of the SCR operation is disabled for replication. However, if you run the
Enable-StorageGroupCopy command in EMS to enable this storage group, the result of the command shows that the storage group is already enabled for replication.
Note The hosts file is located in the %systemroot%\System32\Drivers\Etc folder.
This problem occurs because the entries that are added to the hosts file. The Microsoft Exchange Replication Service relies on DNS to function and the Windows system first checks the hosts file on the local server before going to DNS for its request. When the Windows system checks the hosts file and finds these entries for the server, it incorrectly register the server in the Replication Service. Therefore, the storage group of the SCR operation on this server is shown as disabled for replication.
To resolve this problem, remove the entries from the hosts file, and then flush the DNS by running the
ipconfig/flushdns command at a command prompt. Then restart the Microsoft Exchange Replication Service on both the source server and on the target server.
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
