An alert e-mail message contains an invalid hyperlink to an Office InfoPath form when you enable the "Open as Web page" option for a document library in a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a document library in a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site.
  • You enable the Display as a Web page option for that document library.
  • You configure an alert e-mail message for that document library.
  • You create a new Microsoft Office InfoPath form for that document library.
In this scenario, you receive an alert e-mail message that contains an invalid hyperlink to the Office InfoPath form. When you click that invalid hyperlink, you receive the following error message:
InfoPath Forms Services Error is received: There has been an error while loading the form.
When you click Show error details, you receive the following error message:
The URL sites/Liberty/XFactor/Item1.xml is an unsupported relative URL. Use an absolute URL or prefix with '~sitecollection', for a site-collection-relative URL.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, apply the following update:
  • 977022  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=977022/ ) Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Cumulative Update Server hotfix package (Sts-x-none.msp): December 15, 2009

Limitation

After you apply this update, you can open a hyperlink in Office InfoPath when an Office InfoPath client is installed on the client computer. However, when you try to open a hyperlink in a Web browser, it does not open. This hyperlink opens only in Office InfoPath. If Office InfoPath client is not installed on the client computer, you can open a hyperlink in a Web browser.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
Keywords:
