An Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 user cannot answer a call from Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) after 5 minutes

SYMPTOMS

When an Office Communications Server (OCS) 2007 user receives a call from a public switched telephone network (PSTN) user, following issues occur:
  • If the OCS 2007 user answers the call 5 minutes after receiving notification that there is an incoming call, the user receives the following error message:
    Call was disconnected
  • If the user answers the call 8 minutes after receiving notification that there is an incoming call, Office Communicator 2007 ends the call.

CAUSE

After the OCS 2007 user receives a call from a PSTN user, while the call is connected, the OCS 2007 client sends a "180 Ringing" response by using Session Initiation Protocol (SIP).

This response indicates that the call is in the PSTN calling state and will be forwarded in the following way:
  1. From the client to OCS 2007 Standard Edition or to OCS 2007 Front-end Server.
  2. From OCS 2007 Standard Edition or to OCS 2007 Front-end Server to the Mediation Server.
  3. From the Mediation Server to the PSTN (external phone).
However, OCS 2007 Standard Edition or to OCS 2007 Front-end Server does not forward the response to the Mediation Server after 5 minutes. Therefore, if the user answers the call after 5 minutes after receiving notification that there is an incoming call, the user receives the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section and the call fails.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, the OCS 2007 user must answer the call within 5 minutes of receiving notification that there is an incoming call.
