RAPID PUBLISHING

RAPID PUBLISHING ARTICLES PROVIDE INFORMATION DIRECTLY FROM WITHIN THE MICROSOFT SUPPORT ORGANIZATION. THE INFORMATION CONTAINED HEREIN IS CREATED IN RESPONSE TO EMERGING OR UNIQUE TOPICS, OR IS INTENDED SUPPLEMENT OTHER KNOWLEDGE BASE INFORMATION.

Symptom

Addresses that should be shown in the Do not use proxy server for addresses beginning with section under the Internet Options Advanced Proxy Settings page are not shown. The registry entries still exist and Internet Explorer will still bypass the Web sites.

Cause

This is caused by the configuration of different proxy servers by protocol, where one is the Gopher proxy server.

Note Internet Explorer 7 does not support the Gopher protocol. For this problem to occur, the Gopher protocol would have to have been set in older Group Policies or from an earlier version of Internet Explorer before Internet Explorer 7 was installed.

Resolution

If the configuration was set through Group Policy

·         Remove the value for the Gopher proxy server specified in the Group Policy.

If the configuration was not set through Group Policy

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

To modify the registry entry, follow these steps:

1.       Click Start, click Run, and in the Open box, type the following:

 regedit

2.       Locate the ProxyServer value under the following key in the registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

3.       On the Edit menu, click Edit, String.

4.       Remove the entry associated with Gopher (for example, remove gopher=proxyserver:80;), and then click OK .

5.       Exit Registry Editor.

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.

Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
