Error message when you try to add the Chart Control ActiveX control or the Masked Edit Control ActiveX control to a form in Visual Studio .NET 2003 Service Pack 1 or in Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1: "Failed to import the ActiveX control"

SYMPTOMS

You apply security update 958392 for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or security update 958393 for Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Then, you try to add the Chart Control ActiveX control (Mschrt20.ocx) or the Masked Edit Control ActiveX control (Msmask32.ocx) to a form. When you do this, you may receive an error message that resembles the following:
Failed to import the ActiveX control. Please ensure it is properly registered.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Chart Control ActiveX control (Mschrt20.ocx) or the Masked Edit Control ActiveX control (Msmask32.ocx) is incompletely registered after you apply security update 958392 or security update 958393.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, manually reregister the new ActiveX controls by running the following commands:
%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\mschrt20.ocx
%windir%\system32\regsvr32.exe %windir%\system32\msmask32.ocx
