Article ID: 956057 - Last Review: September 26, 2008 - Revision: 1.1 Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package (Sts.msp): August 26, 2008On This PageSUMMARYThis article describes the Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 issues that are fixed in the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package that is dated August 26, 2008. This article describes the following items about the hotfix package: - The issues that the hotfix package fixes.
- The prerequisites for installing the hotfix
package.
- Whether you must restart the computer after you install
the hotfix package.
- Whether the hotfix package is replaced by any other
hotfix package.
- Whether you must make any registry changes.
- The files that the hotfix package contains.
INTRODUCTIONList of issues that are fixedThis hotfix fixes the
following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge
Base article: - If you do not enable some templates to be used in subsites,
these templates still appear in the Meeting Workspace subsite.
Note After you apply this hotfix, follow these steps:
- Click Site Settings in the
Site Actions list.
- Under Look and Feel, click
Page Layout and Site Template.
- Click to select the Reset all subsites to
inherit these preferred subsite template settings check
box.
- You have Contribute permissions for a Windows SharePoint
Services Web site. However, you cannot see the Manage
attendees link in the Meeting Workspace subsite.
- You create a content type that is named Duplicate Test on a
SharePoint Web site. Then, you create a content type that is named Duplicate
Test on the subsite of the SharePoint Web site. If you use the Stsadm command to export the parent site,
and then you import the parent site to a new site, you receive the following error
message:
A duplicate name "Duplicate Test" was
found. - If you want to communicate with the Directory Management
service to enable incoming e-mail messages, you must add the local farm administrator account
and the Application Pool account to the local Administrators group. However,
this increases the risk that something unknown might occur in the farm.
- You set the Allow Items from this list in search
results? option of a list to No. Then, you save the
list as a template. When you use the saved template to create a new list, the
Allow Items from this list in search results? option of the
new list is Yes.
- If you copy files and folders to a different location in a
document library, the number of list IDs increases exponentially. When the
available list IDs become exhausted, an ID that is still being used will be
reused. Therefore, you receive an error message that resembles the
following:
The URL 'url to uploaded doc' is invalid. It
may refer to a nonexistent file or folder, or refer to a valid file or folder
that is not in this current web. - An option was added to let users select an alternative
representation of the currency symbol of a list.
- You can send documents to Records Center only when you
use the URL of the default zone to browse to the main site. If you use any other zone URL to browse to the main site, and then you try to send documents to Records
Center, you receive the following error message:
Error:
Value does not fall within the expected range. - You have a document that has a date field and that uses
non-U.S. date regional settings. If you try to send this document to Records
Center, you receive the following error message:
An error
occurred while sending file to the record center. The MOSS RC Records
Center is not properly configured for this request. - Workflow generated e-mail messages will not use HTTPS.
Therefore, you cannot use workflow from a server that is using
HTTPS.
- After you upgrade a SharePoint Web site from Windows
SharePoint Services 2.0 to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you cannot use
Windows SharePoint Services APIs to migrate content.
- If you use a Form-based authentication provider, workflows
that are configured to use groups
fail.
- When you request access to a Windows SharePoint Services
page, the SharePoint site sends an e-mail message to the owner of the page.
However, the e-mail message does not contain the UserDisplayName value.
Instead, it contains only the AccountName value.
- After you unghost a Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 site,
and then you migrate it to Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, Windows SharePoint
Services search does not work.
- You have more than two content types in a list. You modify
content type order on
the Change New Button Order and Default Content Type page.
After you
back up
and then restore
the SharePoint site, the list becomes inaccessible, and you receive the
following error message:
Cannot complete this action.
Please try again. - It takes several minutes for a copy operation to complete
in a library.
- When you try to perform a backup in the Central Admin page,
the backup disk space requirements are not calculated correctly. Even though
you have sufficient disk space, you may receive the following error
message:
This page contains one or more errors. Fix the
following before continuing: There is not enough disk space. Free up space
on your hard disk and then try again. - You have a custom Date/Time column that is equal to the Created/Modified column of a list. When
you upload a file to the list, the custom Date/Time column does not show the
correct value.
- If you change the order of some questions in a survey,
the content deployment job may fail.
- After you modify the welcome page of
a site, incremental deployment fails.
- You cannot upload multiple documents to a document library.
When you click OK to upload multiple documents, nothing
happens.
- When your Active Directory directory service policy
requires more than eight characters in a password, you cannot use the Stsadm command to create a new site in Account Creation Mode. This is
because the Stsadm command creates a hardcoded password that has a length of eight
characters.
- When inheritance is enabled on a subsite, you may
experience the following problems on the child subsites:
- If you visit the child subsites, and you do not append
"/default.aspx" to the Web address,
you receive an "HTTP 500" error.
- If the permission inheritance on the child subsites is
enabled, you receive the following error message when you try to break the
permission inheritance:
Error, Cannot complete this
action - When you use the Stsadm -0 command to export from
the site collection, you receive the following error message:
FatalError: There is no row at position 0
- You have two lists that are linked through a simple ID
mechanism. When you browse the page that contains the two lists, you do not
experience any problems. However, when you browse to another page, and then you
return to the original page, the connection between the two lists is
broken.
- Consider the following scenario:
- You set the regional setting to Germany. Therefore, the
decimal separator is a comma (,).
- You create a customized list in a team site.
- You open the site in Microsoft Office SharePoint
Designer 2007 to customize the Edit View page, and then you enter 1,23.
In this scenario, the EditForm.aspx page ignores the
decimal separator. For example, a value of 1,23 in the number field is replaced
by 123.
- On a Windows Vista-based computer, you check out a file
that is greater than 5 megabytes (MB). When you try to check in the file, the
file is truncated to 5 MB. Therefore, the file is corrupted.
- An incremental content deployment job may cause 100 percent
CPU usage on a computer that is running Microsoft SQL Server. Therefore, you
cannot access a farm for
several minutes.
- When you perform a content deployment from one farm to
another, the Content Query Web Part of the target site displays the following
error message:
There is a problem with the query that
this web part is issuing. Check the configuration of this web part and try
again. However, the content deployment job does not display an
error.
- After you apply the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
Infrastructure Update, the URLs are not mapped according to the addresses that
are specified for the alternative access mapping.
- After you apply the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
Infrastructure Update, the Edit View page is not opened when you click
Edit on the current view. Instead, the Create New
View page is opened.
- After you apply the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
Infrastructure Update, workflow occurs for only some e-mail messages that are
received.
This hotfix together with hotfix 956056 also fixes the
following issues that are not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge
Base article: - When you do a full-text query, you cannot use the equal
sign (=) for the column of the Number type.
- On a SharePoint site, when
you search for common Chinese names, you
may receive the following misleading message:
The query
you typed contains only words to exclude from results. Type one or more search
words to include, and then retry your search. - A full crawl may take several weeks to be completed.
Additionally, the crawl may stop responding, and you cannot stop it or cancel
it.
- After
you install the following hotfix packages, you cannot use the Search Web
service to search the
encoded paths. For example, an encoded path may be
"http://servername/shared%20documents."

Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: January 31, 2008
- You
create a custom security trimmer, and then you register it to two Shared
Services Providers. When you search programmatically based on one
of the providers, the correct search results are displayed, and all the
security-trimmed URLs from this provider are available.
If you search
programmatically on another provider during the same session, the correct
search results are displayed as expected. However, the URLs that are passed to
the security trimmer are from the previous provider.
- You develop a solution that is based on Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0. The basic part of the solution is a custom security trimmer. In
this scenario, you add items to a list, and then you modify the permissions on
these items. However, when you try to search items from the list, the items in
the search results do not have titles, and the URLs are invalid.
- The
queries that have stemmed words take a longer time to return results.
For example, a query for "zone" takes 5 seconds. However, a query for "zone 2" takes 15 seconds. (The number "2" in "zone 2" is the stemmed word.) - When
you try to crawl a content source, the offline files in the content source are
indexed unexpectedly. The offline files are the files that have the
PR_FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE attribute set.
Note After you apply this hotfix, offline files are not indexed any
longer. - You may experience the following symptoms after you start a
crawl:
- Event ID 9502 is repeatedly logged in the Application
log.
- The Mssearch.exe process reaches more than 80 percent CPU
usage consistently.
This issue may occur if invalid content is
crawled. - When you configure the Search Core Results Web Part to
return a custom managed property of the Date and Time type, only the date part
is returned. This issue occurs regardless of how you configure the Search Core
Results Web Part.
Note To resolve these issues, you must install both hotfix 956056
and hotfix 956057.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
