Error message when you view the "Log to offline.log" action on an Application Center 2000 controller: "Action failed 0x80041001"
When you use the Health Monitor feature on a Microsoft Application Center 2000 controller, you notice that a Critical condition is displayed for the "Log to offline.log" action. When you view this action, you receive the following error message:
Error: Action failed 0x80041001
General Failure
You may also notice an error message that resembles the following message in the Wbemess.log file:
Unable to
open log file \offline.log, [0x5]
Note By default, the Wbemess.log file is located in the System32\WBEM\Log folder.
This problem may occur if the System account does not have Full Control permissions to the file system.
To resolve this problem, verify that the System account has Full Control permissions to the file system, such as drive C.
To verify that the System account has Full Control permissions to drive C on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type explorer.exe, and then press ENTER.
- Click My Computer.
- Right-click drive C, and then click Sharing and Security.
- On the Security tab, click SYSTEM. Verify that the System account has Full Control permissions.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
