Compressed pages that are read from the cache may not be displayed correctly in Internet Explorer 6 on a Windows XP SP2-based computer

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You configure a server that is running Internet Information Services (IIS) to use the HTTP compression feature.
  • You specify the charset of the page through the content-type header. For example, you specify the following:
    text/html;charset=utf-8
  • On a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to view these Web pages.
In this scenario, if Internet Explorer 6 caches this page and then later reads the page from the cache, the page may not be displayed correctly.

CAUSE

The charset part of the content-type header is not stored for compressed pages after the pages have been expanded in the cache.
