Compressed pages that are read from the cache may not be displayed correctly in Internet Explorer 6 on a Windows XP SP2-based computer
On This Page
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
- You configure a server that is running Internet Information Services (IIS) to use the HTTP compression feature.
- You specify the charset of the page through the content-type header. For example, you specify the following:
text/html;charset=utf-8
- On a Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to view these Web pages.
In this scenario, if Internet Explorer 6 caches this page and then later reads the page from the cache, the page may not be displayed correctly.
CAUSE
The charset part of the content-type header is not stored for compressed pages after the pages have been expanded in the cache.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
