When you try to open a file by typing the URL location of the file, the application that opens the file may not start correctly
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
- You enable the Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed option in Internet Explorer 7.
- You try to open a file that is located on a Web server. To do this, you click Start, click Run, and then type the URL location of the file.
In this scenario, the application that opens the file may not start as expected. Instead, an Internet Explorer
File Download dialog box appears.
This problem also occurs when you try to open a file by clicking a link in an e-mail message.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because of a timing issue. If the file size is small, the browser closing and the Temporary Internet Files folder clearing may occur before the file handle is stored for additional handling in the
ShellEexecute function. Therefore, the file cannot be opened by the correct application.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install cumulative security update 956390.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
