Error message when you try to create the first company in Microsoft Office Accounting or in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006: "Restore database is terminating abnormally"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create the first company in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional, in Microsoft Office Accounting Express, or in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, you receive the following error message:
Restore database is terminating abnormally.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Setup program conflicts with other software when you install Microsoft Office Accounting or when you install Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Use one of the following methods:
    • If you use Microsoft Office Accounting, remove Microsoft Office Accounting and the instance of Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition.

    • If you use Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, remove Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 and the instance of Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (also known as MSDE 2000).

  2. Switch the computer to a Selective Startup setting.

    Note This step helps prevent software conflicts when you install Microsoft Office Accounting or when you install Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006.

    To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
    2. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box, and then click Apply.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Restart the computer.
  3. Install Microsoft Office Accounting or install Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 by using the installation CD.
  4. Start Microsoft Office Accounting or start Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006, and then create the first company.
  5. Switch the computer to a Normal Startup setting. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type msconfig, and then click OK.
    2. In the System Configuration Utility dialog box, click Normal Startup - load all device drivers, and then click Apply.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Restart the computer.

that answer, unfortunately does not solve the bug with MSOA 2008 where it is impossible to restore your backup file to a new database/machine
