SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition, you create a database that uses the Czech locale. When you run an SQL statement that uses the Charindex function in this database context, you receive one of the following error messages.
Error message 1
Major Error 0x80040E14, Minor Error 25921

Note This problem also occurs in SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition and in SQL Server Compact 3.5.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

You have to restart the device after you apply this hotfix.

You do not have to change the registry.

Hotfix file information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

How to apply this hotfix

  1. On your mobile device, uninstall the current version of SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Settings.
    2. Click the System tab.
    3. On the System tab, click Remove Programs.
    4. Remove the current version of SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition.
  2. Extract the .cab file from the hotfix package.
  3. On your mobile device, install these .cab files.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
To avoid encountering this problem, use a locale other than the Czech locale when you create a database. For example, you can use the French locale.
