The 2007 Office suite Service Pack 1 is not downloaded completely to WSUS
| Article ID | : | 953147 |
| Last Review | : | June 18, 2008 |
| Revision | : | 1.0 |
SYMPTOMS
When the 2007
Microsoft Office suite Service Pack 1 (SP1) is published to
Windows
Server Update Services (WSUS), the associated updates
can be filtered based on the language metadata for the updates within the
service pack. However,
the
secondary language updates are not downloaded to the WSUS server.
This problem occurs
when you do the following:
| • | You use WSUS to approve and to deploy the 2007 Office suite
SP1. |
| • | You set the language filter to download only English
updates. |
Therefore,
English client installations do not report an error, and the client does not
receive the service pack. For example, 2007 Office clients that have the
Spanish proofing tool installed cannot receive the updates that are specific to Spanish
because the required updates were not found on the WSUS server.

CAUSE
A revision to the 2007 Office suite SP1 metadata causes a
request for approval on WSUS. Because
of an issue with the WSUS language filter metadata,
some language-specific updates of the service pack may not be downloaded to the
WSUS server. Later client installations cannot report an error, even though
required updates have not been installed.

RESOLUTION
The
WSUS language filter metadata has been modified for the updates within the 2007
Office suite SP1. WSUS
administrators should approve the revision and then re-deploy the service pack
to their clients.
Note No functionality changes have been made to updates or to files
within the service pack.

MORE INFORMATION
The 2007 Office setup has changed from earlier versions of
Office to use multiple-MSI architecture. Customers who install the 2007
Office system receive a combination of global and language-specific
components. The language-specific components include content that is specific
to the base language of the product in addition to content from other
languages. This depends on the features that you select when you install the product.
The previous model changes to public
updates and to service packs also. For example, the English version of the 2007 Office
suite SP1 includes global updates, English-specific updates,
Spanish-specific updates, and French-specific updates.
This issue applies when WSUS administrators filter on any specific language. Not
all WSUS administrators are affected by this issue. For example, the following
administrators are not affected:
| • | Administrators who use WSUS 2.0 together with the default language
filtering settings. |
| • | Administrators who use WSUS 3.0 together with all languages for
filtering. |
