Error message when you try to connect to Project Professional 2007 by using your profile or by using Project Web Access: "Could not connect to Server" or "Service Unavailable"

SYMPTOMS

You try to connect to Microsoft Office Project Professional 2007 by using your profile or by using Microsoft Office Project Web Access. When you do this, you may receive one of the following error messages.

In Project Professional 2007
Could not connect to Server

Project was not able to connect to the Project Server because of the following error.

Error ID: 0x800a13ef
Error Description: An unanticipated error occurred during the processing of this request

If you retry and are still unable to connect, try the following:

Check your network connection.
Check your URL of project server you are trying to connect.
Contact your server administrator for further assistance.
In Project Web Access
Service Unavailable

CAUSE

This issue may occur when the password expires for the Windows user account that is running the following services:
    Administrative Tools services
    • Microsoft Office Project Server Eventing
    • Microsoft Office Project Server Queuing
    • Windows SharePoint Services Timer

    Internet Information Services (IIS)
    • Application Pool for the Web applications that are hosting Windows SharePoint Services and Project Server
    • Application Pool for the Web application that is hosting the Shared Service Provider
    • Application Pool for SharePoint Central Administration version 3

    SharePoint Central Administration
    • Shared Service Provider

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, reset the password for the Windows user account that is running the services. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. Change to the directory of the version of the STSADM command that has been installed. For example, use the following command:
    cd "DriveLetter:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN"
  3. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    stsadm -o updatefarmcredentials -userlogin Domain\User -password NewPassword
  4. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    stsadm -o updateaccountpassword -userlogin Domain\User -password NewPassword –noadmin
  5. Type iisreset, and then press ENTER.
  6. Restart the computer.
