You do not receive search alerts when you use the FullTextSqlQuery object to perform a full-text search of a server that is running SharePoint Server 2007

SYMPTOMS

You use the FullTextSqlQuery object to perform a full-text search of a server that is running Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. When you do this, you receive the initial search alert that states that the particular search alert was created. However, you do not receive the search alerts for the following searches.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply hotfix 952288.

952288  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=952288/ ) Description of the Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 hotfix package: May 8, 2008

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

The following code is an example of how to use the FulltextSqlQuery object to perform a full-text search of a server.
String siteUrl = "http://localhost";
           String queryText = "SELECT Title FROM Scope() WHERE FREETEXT(defaultproperties, 'xyz')";
           SPSite spSite = new SPSite(siteUrl);
           Query alertQuery = new FullTextSqlQuery(spSite);
            alertQuery.QueryText = queryText;
            alertQuery.ResultTypes = ResultType.RelevantResults;
            alertQuery.TrimDuplicates = true;
            alertQuery.Execute();

          //Creating search alerts
            SearchAlert searchAlert = new SearchAlert(spSite, alertQuery);
            searchAlert.ChangeType = AlertChangeType.Discovered;
            searchAlert.InnerAlert.AlertFrequency = SPAlertFrequency.Daily;
            searchAlert.InnerAlert.EventType = SPEventType.All;
            searchAlert.InnerAlert.Title = "FirstSearchAlert";
            searchAlert.InnerAlert.User = spSite.OpenWeb().AllUsers[@"domain\username"];
            searchAlert.Update();
Note The AlertFrequency property should be set to "Daily" instead of "Immediate." "Immediate" alerts are not supported for searches.
