Article ID: 950439 - Last Review: April 10, 2008 - Revision: 1.2 No results are returned when you search for German compound words or for German compound names in SharePoint Server 2007SYMPTOMSYou browse a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 site by using a browser that has the languages setting set to German. When you search for a German compound word or for a German compound name that is contained in a page, in a list, or in "people search," no results are returned. If you set the languages setting set to English, the correct results are returned. For example, this problem occurs if you search for the following words or names: - Riesentorte
- Baumgarten
- Nanotechnologie
- Nanoteilchen
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, apply the SharePoint Server 2007 hotfix package that is dated March 21, 2008.

Description of the SharePoint Server 2007 hotfix package: March 21, 2008
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. MORE INFORMATIONAfter you apply this hotfix, follow these steps to enable the hotfix: - Run the Psconfig.exe command-line tool or the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard (PSConfigUI.exe) to upgrade the SharePoint system.
- On the Home page, click Site Actions, point to Site Settings, and then click Modify All Site Settings.
- On the Site Settings page, click Web Parts.
- On the Web Part Gallery page, click Edit Document Properties for the SearchCoreResults.webpart item.
- On the Web Part Gallery: SearchCoreResults page, click Export to save the SearchCoreResults.webpart file to a folder, and then click Delete Item to delete the Web Part.
- On the Web Part Gallery page, click Edit Document Properties for the SearchActionLinks.webpart item.
- On the Web Part Gallery: SearchActionLinks page, click Export to save the SearchActionLinks.webpart file to a folder, and then click Delete Item to delete the Web Part.
- On the Web Part Gallery page, click Edit Document Properties for the PeopleSearchCoreResults.webpart item.
- On the Web Part Gallery: PeopleSearchCoreResults page, click Export to save the PeopleSearchCoreResults.webpart file to a folder, and then click Delete Item to delete the Web Part.
- Open the SearchCoreResults.webpart file in Notepad, add the following XML tags to the file, and then save the file.

<Property name =â€QueryLanguage†type=â€stringâ€>en-US</property> - On the Web Part Gallery page, click Upload, locate the SearchCoreResults.webpart file, and then click OK.
- On the Web Part Gallery page, click Upload, locate the PeopleSearchCoreResults.webpart file, and then click OK.
- On the Web Part Gallery page, click Upload, locate the SearchActionLinks.webpart file, and then click OK.
- On the Search page, search for a word. Click Edit Page after the search results are returned.
- In the Bottom Zone section of the Search page, delete the Search Core Results Web Part, and then click Add a Web Part to add the Search Core Results Web Part.
- In the Middle Upper Right Zone section of the Search page, delete the Search Action Links Web Part, and then click Add a Web Part to add the Search Action Links Web part.
- Click Publish.
- On the Search page, click People, and then search for a name. Click Edit Page after the search results are returned.
- In the Bottom Zone section of the Search page, delete the People Search Core Results Web Part, and then click Add a Web Part to add the People Search Core Results Web part.
- Click Publish.
Note After you complete these steps, queries are processed as if the query language is English.
