a user who is not an administrator, you receive one of the
following access error messages when the application calls the StgOpenStorage method: Windows VistaERROR_DIRECTORY Windows
Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)STG_E_ACCESSDENIED This problem
occurs if the program process impersonates a user who is not an

CAUSEIn Windows Vista, session namespaces have been hardened so
that a limited set of users has rights to create a named object in the session
namespace. Structured storage tries to create a named event that is used for
synchronization. If the current thread token does not have rights to create a
named event in the session namespace, the StgOpenStorage method fails. Additionally, you receive an access denied error
message. Back to the top RESOLUTIONHotfix information A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix. If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.
