FIX: Some characters in the root namespace of a project change case after you build the project by using the Visual Basic compiler

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

After you build a project by using the Microsoft Visual Basic compiler, some characters in the root namespace of the project change case. For example, consider the following scenario:
  • You create a class library project and then set the root namespace to a name that contains some uppercase characters. For example, you set the root namespace to "MyNamespace."
  • You create another class library project and then set the root namespace to a lowercase version of the root namespace that you set previously. For example, you set the second root namespace to "mynamespace."
  • You reference the .dll files of the first class library project in the second class library project.
  • You build the second class library project by using the Visual Basic compiler.
  • You open the compiled .dll files of the second class library project in Reflector.
In this scenario, the namespace in the compiled .dll files of the second class library project is changed to the namespace that you set for the first class library project. That is, some lowercase letters of the namespace in the compiled .dll files of the second class library project are changed to uppercase letters to match the namespace that you set for the first class library project.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when there are multiple assemblies for which the root namespace definition is the same except for capitalization.
