Error message when you try to add a KPI Web Part to a page in the French version of SharePoint Server 2007: "Impossible to add selected component"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to add the KPI Details Web Part to a page in the French version of SharePoint Server 2007 or in the French version of Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you receive the following error message:
KPI_Details_fra_error.png Impossible d'ajouter le composant sélectionné Détails des indicateurs de performance clé (KPI) - le fichier n'est pas valide (Impossible to add selected component. KPI Details - file is invalid)

CAUSE

This issue occurs because of an invalid character that exists when you use the French version of SharePoint. This invalid character resembles a space character. However, it is not a typical space character. When you add the Web Part to the page, that invalid character is converted to HTML. Then, the invalid character is used in the .dwp Web Part file.

RESOLUTION

This issue is resolved for any sites that you provision after you install Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). However, installing the service pack does not resolve this issue for sites that are provisioned before the service pack is installed. To resolve this issue for sites that are provisioned before the service pack is installed, edit the description of the IndicatorWebPart.dwp Web Part to remove the invalid character. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Web Part gallery. The URL that you use to open this gallery will resemble the following URL: http://server_name/_catalogs/wp/Forms/AllItems.aspx
  2. Edit the IndicatorWebPart.dwp Web Part.
  3. Remove the invalid character from between SQL and Server, and then insert a space in its position in the Description column.
