Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues:

• Consider the following scenario. You create a team site in Windows SharePoint Service 3.0. Some characters in the path of the site contain accents. For example, the path contains the é character. Additionally, you upload a file to the team site. Then, you use the E-mail a Link feature in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 to send the file to a recipient. The E-mail a Link feature generates a link in a new e-mail message in Microsoft Office Outlook. In this scenario, when you click the link in the message, the link does not work.
• In the Norwegian version of Windows SharePoint Service 3.0, you have a folder in a document library that contains one of the Norwegian characters. For example, the folder contains æ, ø, or Ã¥. In this scenario, the Send To link for the documents in the folder is broken.
• In the English version of Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 that has Japanese language pack installed, you have a document in a document library that contains Japanese characters. In this scenario, the Send To link for the document is broken.
• In the Hebrew version of Windows SharePoint Service 3.0 that has no language pack installed, you have a document in a document library that contains Hebrew characters. In this scenario, the Send To link for the document is broken.
• Assume that you use Word 2003 to create and save a document that has custom content type to a SharePoint document library in the French version of Windows SharePoint Service 3.0. In this case, the content type gets stored as a folder instead of as the content type that was assigned.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
