A content database name appears as a server object in a SharePoint Server-based farm
SYMPTOMS
After you add a content database to a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server-based farm, the database name appears as a server object in the
Farm Topology view under
Servers.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you type a name that is not valid in the
Server Name field when you add the content database. This action causes the content database name and the server name to be transposed when the database is added to the farm.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
- In Windows Internet Explorer, access the following Web page on the SharePoint Server administrative server:
http://Server_Name:Port/_admin/FarmServers.aspx
Note In the address, Port is the port number that is configured for the Central Administration Web site. - Next to the affected server, click Remove Server, and then click OK.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
- Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
- Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
