When you use a Microsoft 2007 Office application that takes advantage of multiple network stacks, you may have to enter credentials multiple times. This behavior occurs even when you click to select the Remember my password check box.

This problem may occur if an application that uses multiple HTTP stacks connects to a Windows Live ID gated server. For example, an application may use the WinInet stack for direct Internet access and the WinHTTP stack through Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV). These applications may have to authenticate a user one time for each HTTP stack. Microsoft 2007 Office applications are an example of this kind of application.

To resolve this problem in Windows Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:

1. Install security update 944533 (security bulletin MS08-010), or install a later cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. For more information about security update 944533, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

2. After you install the update in step 1, you have to modify registry settings to enable the update. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
   2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
   3. Right-click FeatureControl, point to New, and then click Key.
   4. Type FEATURE_ENABLE_PASSPORT_SESSION_STORE_KB948608, and then press ENTER.
   5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
   6. Type iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
   7. Double-click iexplore.exe.
   8. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
   9. Click the File menu, and then click Exit.
3. Restart the computer.
