A Web service call fails when you create a .NET Framework 1.1 application to use the QueryEx operation in SharePoint Server 2007 and in SharePoint Portal Server 2003

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 application to use the QueryEx operation in the Search Web service, the Web service call fails in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and in Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because .NET Framework 1.1 applications cannot deserialize array types.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, build the application by using the .NET Framework 2.0 or a later version.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
  • Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003
  • Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
