Error message when you sign up to use the ADP Payroll service by using a company name that you created in Office Accounting Professional 2007 or in Office Accounting Express 2007: "Payroll for Microsoft Office Accounting is currently unavailable"

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You create a company name in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 or in Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007. Then, you use this company name to sign up to use the ADP Payroll service or to manage the ADP Payroll service. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
The sign-up and, management functionality for Payroll for Microsoft Office Accounting is currently unavailable, please try again later.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you create a company name that contains any of the following special characters:
  • exclamation point (!)
  • dollar sign ($)
  • ampersand (&)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007.
  2. On the Company menu, click Company Information.
  3. In the Company name box, delete the special character.
  4. In the Legal name box, delete the special character, and then click OK.
  5. On the Company menu, click Preferences.
  6. On the General tab, click Restore Settings, and then click OK.
  7. Sign up to use the ADP Payroll service or to manage the ADP Payroll service.
  8. Start Windows Internet Explorer.
  9. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.

    Note If the Tools menu is not displayed, press ALT+T to display the Tools menu.
  10. Under Browsing history, click Delete, click Delete all, and then click OK.
