FIX: Visual Studio 2005 stops responding or performance is slow when you use the IntelliSense feature

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, you may experience slow performance, or Visual Studio 2005 may stop responding. This problem occurs when one of the following conditions is true:
  • You try to use the IntelliSense feature to obtain information on fields, methods, or properties on objects, pointers, or classes. For example, you use the following syntax:
    Object.
  • You try to obtain the explanation for a method or a template by using one of the following syntaxes:
    • Function(
    • Template<
  • You scroll through a very long source code window. This problem especially occurs when the functions in the source code window are very long.
  • You switch between the choices in the Active solution configuration drop-down list in the Configuration Manager dialog box.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of the current locking mechanism on the IntelliSense feature. This mechanism prevents concurrent access from multiple threads.
