PRJ: List Separator for MPX Files Can't Be a Space
This article was previously published under Q94276
SUMMARY
If you are using Microsoft Project, you cannot open a file saved in the MPX
file format if the file was saved with a space for the list separator. If
the list separator is a space, you will receive the following error message
when you attempt to open the file:
An invalid MPX record was encountered (line #1). Field not valid. The
file cannot be opened.
MORE INFORMATION
In Microsoft Project, when you open a file that was saved in the MPX file
format, Microsoft Project strips away the space at the beginning and end of
each field for each record. If the list separator is a space, this list
separator space is also stripped away and Microsoft Project has no way to
determine the start and finish of each field.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
