Error message when you try to create a company in Accounting Professional 2007 or in Accounting Express 2007: "Cannot open back up device 'c\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL>@\MSSQL\Backup\data\default.db'"

SYMPTOMS

When you try to create a company in Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 or in Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007, you receive the following error message:
The following database error occurred:
Cannot open back up device 'c\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL>@\MSSQL\Backup\data\default.db'.
Operating system error 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).
RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.
This problem occurs if you installed Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
  • SQL Server is missing files.
  • SQL Server is corrupted.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Manually remove Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007 and Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005. For more information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
