How to upgrade company data from Small Business Accounting 2006 on a computer to Accounting Professional 2007 or to Accounting Express 2007 on another computer

INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to upgrade company data from Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 on a computer to Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 or to Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007 on another computer.

To upgrade company data from Small Business Accounting 2006 on a computer to Accounting Professional 2007 or to Accounting Express 2007 on another computer, follow these steps:
  1. In Small Business Accounting, open the company.
  2. On the File menu, point to Utilities, and then click Data Utilities.
  3. Click Backup, and then click Browse to select a location.
  4. Click Save.
  5. If you want to use a password, type a password in the Password box and in the Verify password box.
  6. Click OK to back up the file.
  7. Click OK, and then click Close.
  8. Copy the backup file.
    • If the computers are networked, copy the backup file to the other computer.
    • If the computers are not networked, copy the backup file to a removable storage device.
  9. StartAccounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007 on the other computer. If a company is open, click Close Company on the File menu.
  10. In the "Start - Microsoft Small Business Accounting" window, click Restore a backup.
  11. Click Browse next to the Backup filename field, locate the backup file that you copied in step 8, and then click Open.
  12. Next to the Restore backup file to box, click Browse.
  13. In the Select configuration file dialog box, type the name for the file in the File name box.
  14. Click Save.
  15. Click Yes. If you created a password in step 5, type the password.
  16. Click OK to restore the backup.
  17. When the restore process has finished, click OK.
  18. Click Open an existing company, and then select the file that you created in step 13.
  19. Follow the steps in the Update wizard to complete the update.
