FIX: Error message when you run an ASP.NET 2.0 Web application that is built on the .NET Framework 2.0: "The constructor to deserialize an object of type '<custom object>' was not found"

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You install the MS07-040 update. You run a Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 Web application that is built on the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. In this scenario, you may receive an exception error message that resembles the following:
Exception object: 026e3ce4
Exception type: System.Runtime.Serialization.Serialization
Exception Message: The constructor to deserialize an object of type '<custom object>' was not found.
InnerException: <none>
StackTrace (generated):
The stack trace that appears in the error message resembles the following:
    SP       IP       Function
    00000000 00000001 System.Web.Hosting.ApplicationManager.RespondToPingIfNeeded()
    05BFF168 660D7ACD System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.RespondToPingButNotTooOften()
    05BFF1AC 660D796B System.Web.Hosting.HostingEnvironment.DecrementBusyCountInternal()
    05BFF1BC 6600F404 System.Web.HttpRuntime.FinishRequest(System.Web.HttpWorkerRequest, System.Web.HttpContext, System.Exception)

    05BFF304 6612A7EA System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule.PollLockedSessionCallback(System.Object)

Additionally, you may receive a System.NullReferenceException exception from the System.Web.SessionState.SessionStateModule.PollLockedSessionCallback method. The following information is logged in the application event log:

CAUSE

After you install the MS07-040 update, a global counter is implemented in an application domain. The application domain is separate from the current application domain. After the HttpWorkerRequest.EndOfRequest method is called, the times of the global counter implementation decrease. During the cross-application domain call, the current Thread.CurrentPrincipal property should be serialized. If the application uses a custom UserPrincipal class that is not serializable, the application cannot serialize the current Thread.CurrentPrincipal property. Therefore, the application throws the exception.

RESOLUTION
