You are prompted to approve a connection to a SharePoint feature in Outlook 2003

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You access a feature such as a calendar, a contact list, or a task list on a server that is running Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Then, you click Connect to Outlook under Actions to connect the feature to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. In this scenario, you are prompted to approve the connection with the following message in Outlook 2003:
Connect this SharePoint feature_name to Outlook?
Note In this message, feature_name is a placeholder for a calendar, a contact list, or a task list.

RESOLUTION

How to obtain the hotfix

This issue is fixed in the Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 Hotfix Package that was released on December 5, 2007. For more information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

This hotfix lets you suppress connection messages when you try to connect to a calendar, a to contact list, or to a task list on a SharePoint server.

To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Exit Outlook 2003.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then select the following registry key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook
  4. Point to New on the Edit menu, and then click Key.
  5. Type NoPromptStsURLs, and then press ENTER.
  6. Click NoPromptStsURLs, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click String Value.
  7. Type 1, and then press ENTER.
  8. Right-click 1, and then click Modify.
  9. In the Value data box, type SharePoint_Calendar_URLs, and then click OK.

Note In this step, SharePoint_feature_name_URLs is a placeholder for one or more SharePoint server URLs that host calendars, contact lists, and task lists.
  10. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.
To add more SharePoint server URLs, add a new value name by using the next number in sequence. The first value name is 1, the second value name is 2, and the third value name is 3. The following table contains an example of the value name sequence and examples of SharePoint server URLs.
