SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft SQL Server 2005-based application or in SQL Server Management Studio, you try to query data from a column of the XML data type or from a variable of the XML data type. You do this on a Windows Vista-based computer. In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: Unexpected end of file has occurred.
This problem may occur in certain circumstances when you to try to retrieve lots of XML data from an XML data type field.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, drop the XML schema validation from the column of the XML data type or from the variable of the XML data type.
