The SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard does not finish successfully on a computer that also has GroupBoard Workspace 2007 installed

SYMPTOMS

You install a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 service pack or software update, or you install a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 service pack or software update on a computer that also has Microsoft GroupBoard Workspace 2007 installed. Then, you try to run the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard. In this scenario, you receive the following error message:
Configuration Failed
One or more configuration settings failed. Completed configuration settings will not be rolled back. Resolve the problem and run this configuration wizard again.

The following contains detailed information about the failure:
Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies. An exception of type Microsoft.SharePoint.PostSetupConfiguration. PostSetupConfigurationTaskException was thrown.

Additional exception information:
Failed to upgrade SharePoint Products and Technologies.
Also, a message that resembles the following message is logged in the Application event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard
Event Category: None
Event ID: 100
Computer: SERVERNAME
Description: Configuration of SharePoint Products and Technologies failed. Configuration must be performed in order for this product to operate properly. To diagnose the problem, review the extended error information located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\12\LOGS\PSCDiagnostics_9_2_2007_1_58_12_469_1226386879.log, fix the problem, and run this configuration wizard again.

Additionally, you may receive the following error message when you try to visit a Windows SharePoint Services Web site or a SharePoint Server Web site if the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard does not finish successfully:
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

WORKAROUND

To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Cannot access the SharePoint site or the GroupBoard Workspace site

If you cannot access the SharePoint site or the GroupBoard Workspace site, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  2. In Add or Remove Programs, select Microsoft GroupBoard Workspace 2007, and then click Remove.
  3. When you are prompted to perform an IIS reset, click OK.
  4. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard.
  5. On the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard welcome page, click Next, and then follow the steps in the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard. If you receive a message that states A previous attempt to upgrade SharePoint and Technologies has been failed, click OK to continue the configuration.
  6. When the Configuration is successfully completed message appears, click Complete, and then close the wizard.
  7. Install GroupBoard Workspace 2007.
  8. Download and then install the update for GroupBoard Workspace 2007. To download this update from the Microsoft Download Center, visit one of the following Microsoft Web sites:

If the SharePoint Products and Technologies Configuration Wizard does not finish successfully even though you can access a SharePoint site or a GroupBoard site, follow these steps:
  1. Download and then install the update for GroupBoard Workspace 2007. To download this update from the Microsoft Download Center, visit one of the following Microsoft Web sites:

Hi, i'm installing WSS v3 SP1 and getting same error as described, but i don't have Microsoft GroupBoard Workspace 2007 installed:( do you know why it could be happening. on the same server are installed: SQL Server 2005, MOSS 2007, PS 2007 and BSM 2005 compatibility Release. any help would be great!!! greetings.
