On a computer that has Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007, Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003, or Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 installed, a layered window is not displayed in the remote client session

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. On a computer that has Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003 or Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 installed, or on a Windows 2000-based computer that has Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 installed, you follow these steps:
  1. You use the Remote Control tool that is part of the Remote Tools collection to connect to a remote client session.
  2. On an application in the remote client session, you access a layered window through the Remote Control Client Viewer window.
  3. You try to perform mouse actions on the layered window.
The layered window does not respond to the mouse actions. Also, the layered window is not displayed in the remote client session.

Note The following examples illustrate the implementation of layered windows in various applications:
  • Tool tips displayed in Windows Explorer and in other applications
  • The Microsoft Office Button that is part of the 2007 Office Fluent user interface

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the keyboard shortcuts or commands that the application supports to move through the menus and the other interactive windows of the application.

Even if the layered window is not displayed correctly in the Remote Control Client Viewer window, keyboard shortcuts or commands are passed through the layered window.

MORE INFORMATION

See the Help files or the product documentation for the appropriate application to determine which keyboard shortcuts or commands are supported.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Standard Edition
