You cannot permanently change the value of the "Number of copies" setting for Product Mix worksheet and for the Maximizing Income worksheet in the Solvsamp.xls file in Excel

On This Page

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Office Excel, when you print the Product Mix worksheet in the Solvsamp.xls file, the number of printed copies of the worksheet is 12,334. You may also notice that the value of the Number of copies setting for the Maximizing Income worksheet in the Print dialog box is -1. However, you cannot permanently change the value of the Number of copies setting for the worksheets.

Note The Solvsamp.xls file is a sample workbook for Excel. You can find the file for different versions of Excel in the SAMPLES folder in the Office installation folder.
  • For Microsoft Office Excel 2007, the Solvsamp.xls file is located in the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\SAMPLES
  • For Microsoft Office Excel 2003, the Solvsamp.xls file is located in the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\SAMPLES
  • For Microsoft Excel 2002, the Solvsamp.xls file is located in the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\SAMPLES
  • For earlier versions of Excel, the Solvsamp.xls file is located in the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\SAMPLES

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the worksheets contain the default value of the Number of copies setting. When you try to change the value, the new value cannot be saved with the workbook.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Change the value of the Number of copies setting in the Print dialog box every time that you print the worksheet.

Method 2

  • Copy the data from the affected worksheet to a new worksheet, and then delete the original worksheet.
  • Rename the new worksheet by using the name of the original worksheet, verify that the value of the Number of copies setting for the worksheet is 1, and then save the workbook.
