Description of the Microsoft Windows registry
SYMPTOMS
On a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server, you
install Microsoft Antigen 9.0 for Exchange or Sybari Antigen 8.0 for Microsoft Exchange. After you do this, no
real-time scanning occurs on the Exchange store.
Note This problem occurs only if a third-party antivirus
product, such as Trend antivirus software, was installed and then uninstalled
on the server.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because a registry entry is incorrectly
reset when the third-party antivirus product is uninstalled.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, follow these steps.
Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry
incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems
might require that you reinstall the operating system. Microsoft cannot
guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own
risk.
- Click Start, click Run,
type regedit, and then click OK.
- Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ServerName\Private-GUID
- Right-click VirusScanEnabled, click
Modify, type 1, and then click
OK.
- Repeat steps 2 through 3 for each Exchange Server database that
is present on the server.
- Exit Registry Editor.
- Restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service.
STATUS
Microsoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
