No progress occurs in the "Installation Progress" dialog box when you install the 2007 Office system or a stand-alone 2007 Office product

Important This article contains information that shows you how to help lower security settings or how to turn off security features on a computer. You can make these changes to work around a specific problem. Before you make these changes, we recommend that you evaluate the risks that are associated with implementing this workaround in your particular environment. If you implement this workaround, take any appropriate additional steps to help protect the computer.

SYMPTOMS

You install the 2007 Microsoft Office system or a stand-alone 2007 Office product to enter the product key. During the installation process, the Installation Progress dialog box appears. However, no progress occurs in this dialog box. The 2007 Office system or the stand-alone 2007 Office product is not installed successfully.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when an antivirus program is running on the computer during the installation of the 2007 Office system or of the stand-alone 2007 Office product.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, temporarily disable antivirus programs and services when you install the 2007 Office system or the stand-alone 2007 Office product. To do this, follow these steps.

Warning This workaround may make a computer or a network more vulnerable to attack by malicious users or by malicious software such as viruses. We do not recommend this workaround but are providing this information so that you can implement this workaround at your own discretion. Use this workaround at your own risk.
  1. Temporarily disable any antivirus programs and services that may be running.

Note For more information about how to do this, see the documentation for the antivirus program.
  2. Install the 2007 Office system or the stand-alone 2007 Office product.
  3. Re-enable any antivirus programs and services that you may have stopped in step 1.

Note For more information about how to do this, see the documentation for the antivirus program.
Important An antivirus program helps protect your computer from viruses. When your antivirus program is disabled, you must not download or open files from sources that you do not trust.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
