Error message when you start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007: "Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))"
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario:
- You install the full version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 on the computer.
- You install Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 when you install Microsoft Office Accounting Professional 2007 or Microsoft Office Accounting Express 2007.
- After you install Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005, you remove the full version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005.
In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007:
Microsoft Office Accounting has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click here.
You also receive this error message when you print a report in Accounting Professional 2007 or in Accounting Express 2007.
After you click to view the report data, you receive an error message that resembles the following message:
Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG))
When you receive the second error message, Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007 stops responding.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because key components that are used by Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007 are removed when you remove the full version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005. Some key components that are removed are the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, reinstall the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Note If you are using a Windows Vista operating system, click Control Panel, and then click Programs and Features.
- Click Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components, and then click Remove.
Note If Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components does not appear in the list, go to step 3. - Obtain and install the Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components. For more information about how to do this, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Start Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007.
If the problem persists, remove Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007. Then, reinstall Accounting Professional 2007 or Accounting Express 2007.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
