The spelling of German (Austria) text and of German (Switzerland) text cannot be checked according to the post-reform rules in the 2007 Office system

SYMPTOMS

You upgrade the English version of Microsoft Office 2003 to the German version of the 2007 Microsoft Office system. However, you do not upgrade all components or all applications to the 2007 Office system. In this situation, when you check the spelling of German text that is formatted as German (Austria) text or as German (Switzerland) text in a Word 2007 document, the spelling may not be checked according to the post-reform rules.

When you check the spelling of German text that is formatted as German (Germany) text, as German (Luxembourg) text, or as German (Liechtenstein) text in a Word 2007 document, the spelling is checked according to the post-reform rules.

Note This issue does not occur if you upgrade the German version of Office 2003 to the German version of the 2007 Office system.

CAUSE

This issue occurs when Office 2003 is upgraded to the 2007 Office system. Some Office 2003 components or Office components of earlier versions of Microsoft Office still remain on the computer. For example, a language pack that includes the German proofing tools may still remain on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove the German proofing tools from Office 2003. Alternatively, remove the Office components of the earlier versions of Office. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of currently installed programs, click German proofing tools or German Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI), and then click Remove.

Note You may have to repair the 2007 Office system after you remove the German proofing tools.
After you remove the German proofing tools from the computer, the earlier versions of Office products that are still on the computer cannot access to the German proofing tools.
