Network performance may be very slow when you use Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2006 on a Windows Server 2003-based computer
When you try to use Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2006 on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer, you may experience the following symptoms:
- Network performance may be very slow when initial replica creation occurs.
- Network performance may be very slow during synchronization.
- Network performance may be very slow during a consistency check.
- Packets that are marked as level 5 may be discarded.
- Packets may be transferred at 1 KB per second.
This problem may occur on a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) network that does not use the Quality of Service (QoS) level 5 (SERVICETYPE_GUARANTEED Priority 5) service type. DPM 2006 requires Qos level 5 to throttle network bandwidth usage.
To work around this problem, do not enable network bandwidth usage throttling for protection groups that contain a server when the server uses MPLS.
To disable network bandwidth usage throttling, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager.
- On the navigation bar, click Protection.
- Click the protection group that contains the server that uses MPLS.
- In the Actions pane, click Modify protection options.
- On the Performance tab, click to clear the Enable network bandwidth usage throttling check box.

Community Feedback System
Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high
and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances
are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back.
Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what
didn't.
Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be
correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each
other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're
not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry
edits), please consult a professional.
Thank you for using kbAlertz.com Feedback System.
