Error message when you start an application in Microsoft SoftGrid: "Error code: xxxxxx-xxxxxx44-00000008"
On This Page
SYMPTOMS
When you start an application in Microsoft SoftGrid, you receive the following error message:
The SoftGrid Client could not launch the application you requested.
The OSD file has a VM element but no VALUE attribute. Please report the following error code to your System Administrator.
Error code: xxxxxx-xxxxxx44-00000008
Additionally, the following error message is logged in the SoftGrid Client log file (Sftlog.txt):
The SoftGrid Client could not parse the OSD file '{path}\{filename}.osd'
Reason: No valid implementation for this machine (rc xxxxxx04-00000008)
The app manager could not create an application from '{path}\{filename}.osd' (rc xxxxxx44-00000008).
CAUSE
This problem occurs when the application
VM value is missing. The
VM value is specified by the
VALUE attribute of the
VM element in the .OSD file. If the
VM element is present, but the
VALUE attribute is not, an error code is displayed.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use a text editor or the SoftGrid Sequencer to update the .osd file.
How to use a text editor to update the .osd file
- Open the .osd file in a text editor.
- Type Win16 or Win32 for the VALUE="" attribute of the VM element as shown in the following example.
<SOFTPKG>
<IMPLEMENTATION>
<VM VALUE="Win32">
<SUBSYSTEM VALUE="windows"/>
</VM>
</IMPLEMENTATION>
</SOFTPKG> - Save the .osd file, and then exit the text editor.
How to use the SoftGrid Sequencer to update the .osd file
- Copy the sequence to the sequencing station.
- Start the SoftGrid Sequencer.
- Click File, click Open, and then open the sequence.
- Click the OSD tab.
- From the list, select the application to update.
- Expand SOFTPKG, expand IMPLEMENTATION, and then click VM.
- Right-click VM, point to Attributes, and then click Add VALUE.
- For the value, select Win16 or Win32.
- Click File, and then click Save.
- Copy the updated .osd file to the SoftGrid Virtual Application Server.
Important Copy only the updated .OSD file. Do not copy the following files:
- .ico files
- .sft files
- .sprj files
- other .osd files
APPLIES TO
- Microsoft SoftGrid for Terminal Services
- Microsoft SoftGrid for Windows Desktops
