Error message when you try to create a document template in SharePoint Server 2007: "To save to the server, correct the invalid or missing required properties"
SYMPTOMS
Consider the following scenario. You use an East Asian language version of Microsoft Office Word 2007 to edit a document that is based on the Group Approval template. Additionally, the document resides on a Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 site that uses the English language. You save the document locally, and then upload the edited document to a SharePoint Server 2007 site that has the East Asian language pack installed.
In this scenario, when you click
My Approval on the SharePoint Server 2007 home page, and then try to create a new document template, you receive the following error message next to
Required Properties:
To save to the server, correct the invalid or missing required properties.
CAUSE
This issue occurs if you edit a document that is created in another language in Word 2007, and then try to create a new template that is based on the document. In this case, the document may contain invalid XML information or invalid XML properties.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use the Document Inspector in Word 2007 to remove the invalid XML information before you upload the document to use as a template. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the document in Word 2007.
- Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Prepare, and then click Inspect Document.
- In the Document Inspector dialog box, accept the default options, and then click Inspect.
- In the Document Inspector dialog box, click Remove All, and then click Close.
