SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Microsoft Application Center 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you install the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. After you do this, Application Center 2000 SP2 cannot replicate global assembly cache assemblies. Additionally, the following Error events are logged in the System log on this computer:
Event 1

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Center Event
Category: Replication
Event ID: 5038
Description:
Status: 0x80070002
StatusMessage: The system cannot find the file specified.

Event 2

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Center Event
Category: Replication
Event ID: 5049
Description:
DriverID: GAC
Status: 0x80070002
StatusMessage: The system cannot find the file specified.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the naming convention for the global assembly cache changes when you install the .NET Framework 2.0. Therefore, the Application Center Replication Service (Acsrepl.exe) cannot find the assemblies.
