Article ID: 911204 - Last Review: June 25, 2010 - Revision: 1.7 Known game issues in Dungeon Siege IIThis article discusses some of the known game issues in
Microsoft Dungeon Siege II. This article also discusses a game update that is
now available from Microsoft that you can use to fix most of the issues that
are discussed in this article. To download the latest game update, visit the following
Microsoft Web site: The following list describes the known issues that you may
experience in Dungeon Siege II:
- In Act I, you may experience the following issues:
- In chapter 4, when you retrieve the cure for Taar,
Taar asks to join you. If you accept, the cure quest is not updated in the
journal.
- In chapter 5, after the battle is won, the Azunite
Scholar will not stop asking for help.
- In chapter 6, when you meet Vix in Eastern Greilyn
Jungle, he asks to join you. If you accept, the cabin door does not
open.
- After chapter 1, found or rescued NPCs are not at the
local inn when you return there. This does not occur with hired
NPCs.
- In Act II, you may experience the following issues:
- In chapter 3, you run out of crystals before lighting
all four lights, even though you found all four crystals.
- In chapter 3, after you finish Elen'Lu island quest,
Finala asks to join you. If you accept, the Isles quest is not updated in the
journal.
- After chapter 3, Finala fixes an elevator in Upper
Greilyn Jungle cave, but it stops working or never works although the lever
moves.
- In chapter 5, if you skip a cut scene of Vai’kesh
prophet running away, the prophet does not escape nor do his followers become
aggressive.
- In chapter 7, you cannot find the commander at the
North Gate after fulfilling her request to destroy the rock-throwers in the
Snowbrook castle.
- In chapter 8, if you leave the fight with Talon the
Dragon at the top of Snowbrook castle, you cannot continue the
fight.
- Talon the Dragon does not appear to fight. To resolve
this issue, visit the following Gas Powered Games Web site: Microsoft

- In Act III, you may experience the following issues:
- In chapter 6, although water flows in all four
waterways, all four parts of the bridge in Agallan trials have not been
raised.
- In chapter 9, after you save the scene where Valdis is
and then reload the scene, there is no cut scene or Valdis.
- In certain cases, such as with Taar in the Dryad town, if
you agree to hire an NPC and escape during their "thanks for hiring me" dialog,
the journal may not correctly update any quest that was open for them. You can
install the latest game update to fix this issue. Alternatively, to play it
safe, if you agree to hire any NPC, do not override their "thanks for hiring
me†dialog.
- In Act I, when you enter the Dryad Colony, the Azunite
Scholar continues to ask for your help and heal himself even after you kill the
plagued Dryads attacking him. You can install the latest game update to fix
this issue. Alternatively, let the old man be attacked by the enemies for some
time and then kill all the enemies.
- In Act II, broken elevator in Upper Kithraya Caverns only
works for three times after it is fixed. You can install the latest game update
to fix this issue. Alternatively, after the elevator is fixed, try not to use
it for more than three times. Also, make sure that you have the person in your
party required to fix the elevator on the team when you open any chests down
there.
For other game issues, try loading the previous saved game
backup that you have on the computer. The game actually keeps two saved game
files. These files are stored for the current and the previous saved games
respectively. When you save the current game, the previous saved game files are
renamed with a .bak extension at the end. If you have saved your current game
but have not saved it two times, you can at least restart from the previous
saved game and the chances are that the issues that you were experiencing will
not occur again. To load the previous game backup file, follow these
steps:
- Quit Dungeon Siege II.
- Click Start, point to
Programs, point to Accessories, and then
click Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, locate and then click the following
folder:
My Documents\My Games\Dungeon Siege 2\Save\SinglePlayer\CharacterName Note In this folder name, CharacterName
represents the name of the character that you play in the game. - In the right pane, copy all the files in the current
folder to another location.
- Right-click
CharacterName.ds2radar, and then
click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click
Yes.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the
CharacterName.ds2party file.
- Locate the following files:
- CharacterName.ds2radar.bak
- CharacterName.ds2party.bak
- Rename the files as follows:
- CharacterName.ds2radar
- CharacterName.ds2party
- Start the game.
- Verify that the issues that you were experiencing in the
game before do not occur now.
