How to troubleshoot software updates for the LG LRM-519 DVR/DVD Recorder on a broadband connection

SUMMARY

This article describes how to troubleshoot software updates for the LG LRM-519 DVR/DVD Recorder with the Microsoft Program Guide service on a broadband connection.

Broadband connectivity issues that affect software updates can be caused by one or more of the following problems:
  • The recorder is disconnected from the network; the Ethernet cable is unplugged.
  • The manual connection is incorrectly configured.
  • A Dynamic Host Configuration protocol (DHCP) failure has occurred.
  • A DHCP failure has occurred on the proxy server.
  • The DHCP for the proxy server is missing or incorrect.
  • A proxy server is being used when a proxy server is not needed.
  • The Internet Protocol (IP), subnet mask, or gateway address is incorrect.

MORE INFORMATION

To troubleshoot software updates, follow these steps:
  1. Determine whether another broadband device on your home network, such as the computer, can connect to the Internet.
  2. Verify that your broadband connection settings are correct. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Start the recorder.
    2. Select Settings, and then select Phone and Network Setup.
    3. Under Set up Connection, verify that Use Broadband is selected.
    4. On the Connection page, select Use Wired (Ethernet) Connection.
    5. Select Configure Network, and make sure that the following settings are correct and complete:
      • For connections that use static IP addresses:
        1. Select Static IP, and then enter the IP, subnet mask, gateway, and DNS addresses that are provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
        2. Select Next, and then select Connect.
For connections that use dynamically acquired IP addresses:
        • If you connect through a proxy server:
          1. Select Proxy Server used.
          2. Enter the proxy server name and port number.
          3. Verify that the recorder's Ethernet cable is inserted into the correct port.
          4. Select Next, and then select Connect.
        • If you do not connect through a proxy server:
          1. Select No Proxy Server used.
          2. Select Next, and then select Connect.

  3. If the issue is not resolved, contact your broadband services provider regarding the network status.
