Issues that are fixed in the Microsoft Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack

The security update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB905645) fixes the issues in the Microsoft Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack that are described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base articles:
897708  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=897708/ ) Description of the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 1 hotfix package: April 28, 2005
899340  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=899340/ ) Description of the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: December 6, 2005
903246  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=903246/ ) Description of the Excel 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: November 7, 2005
905303  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=905303/ ) Items are not sorted as expected when you are using a third-party mailbox store in Outlook 2003
907729  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=907729/ ) Description of the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: January 11, 2006
910833  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=910833/ ) Description of the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package for the German version of Outlook 2003: December 16, 2005
912008  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=912008/ ) Description of the Outlook 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package (Emsmdb32.dll): December 19, 2005
Additionally, the security update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB905645) fixes the following issues in the Office 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
  • You add several large Personal Folders files (.pst) to your Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 profile on a computer that has 2 gigabytes (GB) of physical RAM. When you try to use Outlook 2003, you may receive an error message that states that your Offline Folder file (.ost) is being used by another program.
  • If you use an e-mail program such as Microsoft Outlook Express to download an e-mail message that contains an attachment from an Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) e-mail server, you cannot open the attachment.

This issue occurs because Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) information is added to the e-mail message and to the attachment when the e-mail message is uploaded to the IMAP e-mail server from Outlook 2003. When this behavior occurs, a Winmail.dat attachment is created. However, the attachments cannot be read by other non-TNEF e-mail programs such as Outlook Express.

Issues that are fixed in the Microsoft Office 2003 Proofing Tools

The security update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB905645) fixes the issue in the Office 2003 Proofing Tools that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
910284  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=910284/ ) Description of the Dutch spelling checker for the Dutch version of Office 2003 post-Service Pack 2 hotfix package: February 6, 2005
Additionally, the security update for Microsoft Office 2003 (KB905645) fixes the following issues in the Office 2003 Proofing Tools that were not previously documented in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
  • Consider the following scenario. You check the grammar of Italian text in a Microsoft Office Word 2003 document. In this document, the same word is repeated many times. In this scenario, Word may close unexpectedly. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Office Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that is similar to the following error signature:
    Collapse this tableExpand this table
    Application nameApplication versionModule nameModule versionOffset
    Winword.exe11.0.6113.0Msgrit32.dll3.0.0.39 0005a797
  • When the About dialog box is opened by the ShellAbout() function on a computer that is running the Korean Input Method Editor (IME), a security vulnerability exists. This update fixes this vulnerability.
