On This Page

SYMPTOMS

The CPU usage on a computer may increase to 100 percent when you view a presentation that has animation effects in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 or in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around this issue.

Method 1: Install the latest Microsoft Office 2003 service pack

To work around this issue in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003, install the latest Office 2003 service pack.

For more information about the latest Office 2003 service pack, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
870924  (http://kbalertz.com/Feedback.aspx?kbNumber=870924/ ) How to obtain the latest service pack for Office 2003
Note Some increase in CPU usage is expected when you view a presentation that has animation effects. Therefore, even after you install the latest service pack for Office 2003, you may still notice an increase in CPU usage when you view a presentation that has animation effects. This CPU usage will be higher than the CPU usage that you notice when you view a presentation that does not have animation effects.

Method 2: Save the presentation as a Web presentation

  1. Open the presentation in PowerPoint.
  2. On the File menu, click Save as.
  3. In the Save as type list, click Single File Web Page (*.mht; *mhtml), type a name for the new file, and then click Save.
  4. Exit PowerPoint.
  5. Double-click the .mht file that you saved in step 3.
The Web presentation starts in your browser.

APPLIES TO

Community Feedback System

Very often, it takes hours to solve a problem. Very often, you've looked high and low, and have tried a lot of solutions. When you finally found it, chances are, it was because someone else helped you. Here's your chance to give back. Use our community feedback tool to let others know what worked for you and what didn't.

Please also understand that the community feedback system is not warranted to be correct, it's simply a system that we've built to let people try and help each other. If something in a feedback response doesn't make sense to you, or you're not comfortable making changes that the feedback talks about (like registry edits), please consult a professional.
