Other objects that are in the foreground of a movie object are hidden while a movie object is playing in PowerPoint

SYMPTOMS

When you view a slide show in Microsoft PowerPoint, a movie object plays as expected. However, other objects that are in the foreground of the movie object are hidden while the movie object is playing.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. Movie objects will always play in the foreground of a slide in PowerPoint.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior in the following programs, convert the movie file to an animated GIF file. Then, insert the GIF file into the slide:
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
  • Microsoft PowerPoint Office 2000
When an animated GIF file is playing, other objects can appear in the foreground on the slide.

MORE INFORMATION

Objects can be in the foreground of a movie object on a slide when the movie object is not playing in PowerPoint. However, movie objects will always play in front of all other objects regardless of the z-order in which they are positioned.

Note The z-order of an object indicates the position of the object in a stack of overlapping objects. This object stack is oriented along an imaginary axis, the z-axis, extending outward from the screen.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007
  • Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2002 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000 Standard Edition
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 Standard Edition
