You may receive a "Documents in this folder are not available" error message when you try to open a Web folder that is hosted on an Internet Information Services Web site

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Microsoft Internet Explorer to open a Web folder that is hosted on a Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Web site, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following:
Documents in this folder are not available. The folder may have been moved or deleted, or network problems may be preventing a connection to the server. There is a problem with the webserver. Please try again later or contact the server administrator.
After you click OK, you do not see any files or folders in the virtual directory that you tried to open.

Additionally, you do not see the virtual directory in a directory list when you connect to the Web site by using the NET USE command. If you try to use the CD (change directory) command to change to the virtual directory, you receive an error message that is similar to the following:
File Not Found

CAUSE

This issue occurs when you try to use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) to open a virtual directory as a Web folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use a physical directory instead of a virtual directory.
