After you apply the WebDAV software update that is
associated with Microsoft Security Bulletin MS04-030, you make a WebDAV request
that has many XML attributes. When you do this, you may receive a "500 Server
Error" error message.
The software update that is associated with Security Bulletin MS04-030
includes an updated version of WebDAV and Microsoft XML (MSXML) 3.0. The updated version of
WebDAV and MSXML 3.0
limits the number of attributes per XML element to 32 when used with
WebDAV.
Microsoft Windows Server 2003
If you are running Windows Server 2003, follow these steps:
- Apply the hotfix that is mentioned in this article to your
computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services
(IIS).
- Restart your computer.
- Set the metabase entry. To do this, run the following
command at a command prompt:
cscript.exe adsutil.vbs SET
W3SVC/WebDAVMaxAttributesPerElement 64
Note You must be in the Path\Inetpub\Adminscripts directory to run this
command. - Restart your computer or restart the IISAdmin
service.

If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), follow these
steps:

Note You must be in the Path\Inetpub\Adminscripts directory to run this
command. - Restart the IISAdmin service.
Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows XP Service Pack 1
If you are running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Windows XP Service
Pack 1 (SP1), follow these steps:
- Extract the Mdutil.exe tool from the Support Tools folder.
- Run the following command at a command prompt:
mdutil set -path p -prop 8501 -attrib 1 -utype
1 -dtype 1 -value n
Note p is the path where you want to set the
property, such as /w3svc. n is the value of the property, such
as 32. - Restart the IISAdmin service.
